Biography

Born in 1964, I spent my early childhood in Zambia and attended preparatory school in Devon.  When my parents decided to return to England they settled in Reading, whereupon I was educated at Chiltern Edge secondary school in Oxfordshire.

After joining the Royal Navy in 1982, I completed a technical apprenticeship in electronic and electrical engineering and, following further training at Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth, served as an aeronautical systems engineer.

I read for my bachelors degree (with honours) in engineering in 1988, and masters degree in Design of Information Systems in 2003.  I also have a post graduate linguist diploma in German and am a fluent speaker following 3 years working in the German Navy.

I gained Chartered Engineer and Chartered IT Professional status with the Engineering Council and British Computer Society respectively, and am a qualified Information Systems practitioner and ITIL qualified Manager of IT Services, with broad experience across the IT and business domains.

My main pastimes are golf, computing, and gardening.  I also maintain a few web sites, and have recently served as a school governor.

I enjoy listening to a wide variety of music, from classical to modern pop.  I have played the guitar since the age of 10, and recently taken singing lessons.  I am however a frustrated drummer, who would dearly love to have the space at home for a kit!

My memorable lifetime achievements include: installing the central heating system to my first house, producing a play, acting in a drama festival play and 2 pantomimes, organising a German beer festival, completely rebuilding my Triumph Stag engine whilst abroad, repairing the engine of my yacht whilst stricken off the coast of Portugal at 3 o’clock in the morning with a broken-mast and, at the age of ten, whilst totally alone in Rome airport, successfully ordering my first bottle of wine!
